X7R dielectric provides ±15% capacitance stability over -55°C to +125°C, suitable for automotive, industrial, and other applications requiring a wider operating temperature range. The 1206 (3216 metric) is a power-handling SMD package suitable for AC-DC SMPS filtering, automotive DC-DC converters, LED street light drivers, and EV charger control modules. Commonly used in Module de Puissance, Électronique Automobile, Éclairage LED. Typical end-products include Filtre E/S SMPS AC-DC, Convertisseur DC-DC Automobile, Driver Éclairage Public LED.

"Multiple customer cases highlight the critical importance of capacitor selection in SMPS output stages: (1) A customer procures 1210 100V 2.2µF MLCCs for switching power supply output filtering, (2) A separate case reported a 1210 100V 2.2µF capacitor exploding on the output filter — underscoring that ripple current rating and voltage derating are equally critical as capacitance value. (3) A customer reported a 1206 104/100V output capacitor short-circuit in an LED driver, resolved by upgrading to 250V rated parts."
C0G (NP0) is a Class 1 dielectric with ±30ppm/°C stability, zero DC bias effect, and DF under 0.1% — use it for resonant circuits, timing, and precision filters. X7R is a Class 2 dielectric with ±15% tolerance over -55°C to +125°C and moderate DC bias roll-off, ideal for decoupling, bypass, and general-purpose filtering. X5R offers higher capacitance density than X7R but only spans -55°C to +85°C. Y5V delivers the highest density but swings +22% to -82% across -30°C to +85°C and can lose 70-90% of its rated capacitance at operating voltage.
